After two more student led presentations today, we took our final quiz for Ideas in Antiquity today. Two questions regarding my project mate’s and I’s presentation were on the quiz. I truly enjoyed the final project. I had fun planning it and executing it with Ernestasia and Nyara. Not to toot our own horn but I really enjoyed engaging with the class and Dr. Sandridge and our presentation was fun, exciting, and purposefully relatable.

Wow this is the final FULL journal. Dr. Sandridge said that we still have to turn a journal in next week but just half. So very interesting. Anyway today’s class opened up with us saying our hellos. Dr. Sandridge asked Lauren about the painting in her room that could be seen behind her. She said it was from Cuba. Cuba is only 90 miles away from the coast of Florida. I want to go one day. I’ve never really been out of the country. I went to the Bahamas on a cruise in…

We started off today’s class discussing the election fiasco. At this point, it’s pretty evident that Joe Biden will be the President-elect, but we all know Trump, his administration, and his supporters aren’t going to accept anything other than this feeble, idiotic man being president again. i find it very interesting that the first time I am able to vote is during this mess of an election. Just an observation I noticed. I am just ready for everything to die down and for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to do all the things they…

We started off today’s class discussing the current weather and the looming hurricane. I am in metropolitan Atlanta and am not expecting anything to hit too hard. Then Dr. S introduced our special guess, Ms. Malliron. Her entire talk with us made me think a lot about business and my persepctive of it. I never pictured wanting to pursue business. The main reason being because I never liked the idea of being my own boss. I like the idea of someone being over me and micromanaging sort of. I like having authority to…

In groups today, we talked about Philanthropy in the world and within ourselves. I was grouped with Mashayla, Lauren, and Nyara. Our emphasis was on peacemaking and moderation. We used the “master harmonizer” example from Binti and Lysistrata, to readings we have read this semester. We came up with two big ways. The first being bringing others together, and being a mediator of conflicts. Dr. S then asked how would we become better at this. You will have to diligently view all sides of the story and look over all the evidence and…

Before this week, I had heard of Ida B. Wells. I just knew she was an African-American female journalist who was also one of the founders of the NAACP. As everyone knows, the NAACP is an organization that stands for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored people, and was founded by black intellects at the beginning of the 20th century. Other than that, I didn’t know much about Ida B. Wells. So her speech being our assigned text this week is interesting and excting. She is actually mentioned on a show…

After we took the weekly quiz, we went deeper into the meaning of Ned Week’s (The Normal Heart) name and the contradiction it displayed. His first name was Alexander, mimicking Alexander the Great, whilst ironically his last name is Weeks, synonymous to the word “weak”. By no means do I think the character of Ned is weak. If anything, he’s the strongest character in the play. I think the fact that he did have issues he could improve upon made him vulnerable to the reader, but I wouldn’t say in a weak way…

We opened up today’s class with Dr. Sandridge talking about Halloween costumes. I have never really been an adamant halloween celebrater. Maybe it’s because I grew up in a Christian household. My grandmother used to tell us it was a demonic holiday where evil spirits and demons come out and corrupt people. On Halloween, we use to dress up, but instead of going door to door, we went to Church and attended a “fall festival”. Basically in the church recreational center, there was like a circle of events and games. Like one station…

At the end of class today, Dr. S put us in breakout groups and we discussed dehumanization amongst different topics. My group members were Nyeema, and Omoneka. We chose the topics of Education and economy. Since we are all black, the first thing we thought of when concerning Education was how a lot of standardized tests cater to wealthy white people. The questions are geared toward the benefit of and understanding of them. Also, pricing and waivers for the test. Unless you have a waiver, to take the ACT one time its $55…

The exercise we did today in class was similar to the Binti Master Harmonizer academy exercise we did last week. It was actually the same thing, just different things applied and new people your working with. We were group three so we chose question 3. We knew we were going to approach it one of two ways. We had to come up with ways on how students could improve on openly exchange opinions and arrive at best plan to execute. Apply it to ourselves as college students who have already gone through K-12…
